Diving in Andalucía

Diving in Andalucía

Stretching for over 200 kilometres from Gibraltar in the west, to Motril in the east, the Costa del Sol and Costa Tropical offers fantastic and varied diving. A profusion of marine life, along with a great underwater vista, makes for great diving in warm clear blue seas. All of these dive sites are within a 75-minute drive from our base.

La Herradura - 6 to 25 metres
La HerraduraA very beautiful bay that offers easy shore diving. Easy shore diving with the highlight being the ‘Tres Picos’ (Three Peaks). The western side of the headland of Punta De La Mona forms the rocky backdrop under the water, and it is this natural feature that provides us with the great diving. The seabed gently drops away as the underwater rock walls continue to tower above us, with the ‘Three Peaks’ rising to almost break the surface above us. The dive follows the base of the wall, and allows us to explore many of the gullies and vertical walls, and occasional swim through, where there is a profusion of aquatic life.

Marina del Este – 12 to 40 mtrs plus
Marina del EsteSituated on the east side of Punta de la Mona, this protected bay, with its small marina, offers multiple shore diving opportunities. The left of the bay has the marina wall, which is a shallow (18 mtrs) dive that follows the rocky outcrop and breakwater that forms the protection for the marina. Very scenic, lots of life, and possibility for long dive times. The middle of the bay has two reefs (14 & 25 mtrs), both which team with fish and vegetation, where the many gullies, cracks and boulders are great for exploring. The right side of the bay gives us our deeper diving (30 mtrs plus) and is a combination of vertical walls, rocky outcrops and deep gullies. This dive is where you can get to see the rare corals, large Groupers and if you’re lucky, the mola mola (sunfish).

For our deeper and technical diving we take a boat to the southern face of Punta de la Mona, where the walls drop near vertical from the surface to over 50 metres; spectacular wall diving!

Calahonda – 18 to 25 metres
CalahondaA small coastal town east of Motril, where tucked into the very end of the beach is a great dive. The N340 road sits high atop the rocky sea wall, where our dive follows this cliff underwater, and explores the vertical walls. The start of the dive has a shallow reef that gently drops away from the cliff wall, and teems with juvenile fish and where the wall is festooned with soft corals and vegetation.
This is also a great dive for your first night dive.

Rijanna – 9 to 18 metres
RijannaA beautiful beach with often no other divers or people to be seen! Our dive follows the rocky outcrop that drops into the sea, with plenty of chance for exploring the walls, and swim throughs that can be found. A memorable dive!

Specialised and Technical diving

Specialised and Technical diving
Specialised and Technical diving

Specialised and Technical diving

Take your diving in a new direction and acquire those skills that can add enjoyment and safety to your time underwater. Whether you want to learn how to take better underwater photos, plan a multilevel dive, or start your journey into technical diving, Active Andalus offers some of the best specialty and technical diving courses you´ll find, creating real value and benefit to your diving, and with instructors who bring their ´real world´ experience to each course.

Specialty and Technical diving courses are offered as a long weekend or a full week of diving, and gives you an option to ‘pick and mix courses’ and to also include guided diving as well.

All of our specialty and technical diving courses are fully inclusive of accommodation, food and transportation, and prices start from €228 per person for the specialty courses, and €599 per person for the technical diving courses. (prices based on a booking of two persons)

PADI Specialty Courses
There is more to diving just than diving! As you continue your journey in diving you’ll start to see that there is much more fun to be had under the water, and that you can also learn new skills that greatly enhance your safety. Specialty courses are a great way to compliment your recreational diving, giving you a structured introduction to specific skills, techniques and environments, and having fun at the same time! Take a look at the interesting courses we offer.

Self-Reliant Diver    Surface Marker Buoy Diver                     U/Water Navigator       Wreck Diver

PADI Technical Diving Courses
PADI Technical Diving CoursesTechnical diving takes you beyond the limits of recreational diving, and gives the excitement and adventure of exploring places very few divers have been. Technical diving stands out from recreational diving as it allows you to incur decompression, and use equipment and methodologies that reduce the risks associated with decompression diving.

The PADI TecRec courses are structured logically, and were designed and developed in the same demanding way that you come to expect from the PADI organisation.

Within the courses you’ll be introduced to the equipment you’ll use for technical diving, new skills and procedures, and how to plan a decompression dive using different breathing gases. In technical diving the surface is often inaccessible in an emergency, so Tec divers use extensive procedures, equipment and training to manage the added risks and potential hazards.

The PADI TEC 40 course is the first step in the TecRec system, and introduces you to limited decompression diving with a wide margin of safety. The TEC 45 and TEC 50 courses further develop your learning, where eventually you’ll be qualified to make a ‘two gas’ switch multistop decompression dive. For more information, take a look at our TecRec courses.

TEC BASICS      TEC 40        TEC 45        TEC 50

Tec Rec FlowchartIs technical diving for you? Technical diving should not be looked upon as a natural progression to your diving, as many divers enjoy a lifetime of diving without leaving recreational limits. Technical diving exposes you to additional risks and hazards that may be unacceptable to you, but if you’re willing to accept these, then a whole new world of adventure and challenges await you!
