Hotel Arco del Sol was one of the first hotels we used for our walking holidays, and it was a gem of a find. With only 14 bedrooms, this family-run hotel is like a home from home.

Antonio, Rosa, and their family manage this hotel very well. They are very accommodating and friendly and go to great lengths to ensure your stay there is comfortable. The rooms are spotlessly clean and well-furnished, and the restaurant has an extensive and generous menu.

After freshening up after your day of walking, the restaurant offers a wide range of foods. Meat and fish dishes, soups, starters, salads, and speciality cuisine local to the area are all available. The servings are generous, and we have never had anyone comment that they were never full up.

Each morning, there is a substantial and assorted continental breakfast, including meats, cheeses, fruit, yoghurts, and bread. Additional bread and bottled water are available to make your packed lunch for the day.

With proximity to the A-356 and further access to the A-45 Autovia, it is central for a wide and varied range of walks.

It is also just a short 35-minute drive from Malaga Airport to the hotel, which is adjacent to the A-356 road on the outskirts of Colmenar town.

Outside Dining

The external dining and seating are south-facing, allowing you to enjoy breakfast in the warm, early morning sun. Or enjoy your evening meal in the last warm rays of the sun as it sets over the Sierra de las Nieves.

Inside the Hotel

For those early starts or when it is warmer to be inside, the dining room and bar are the place to be. And, only a visit to this hotel is complete once you have checked out probably the largest ceramics display in Andalucia.

Rejuvenate at the end of the day

After a warm, dusty day of hiking along the disused railway to Zaffaraya or braving a cold wind on the summit of Chamizo, each bedroom is the perfect place to end the day. All en-suite, and with a combi bath/shower and air conditioning, you will awake the next day, ready to hit the trail again.
